A good value and substantial tool which works.
I've only just discovered automatic centre punches and decided on the Eclipse brand as it's a known and established brand.I have to say that it works far better than I expected, I certainly wasn't disappointed and I've used it numerous times in the past few days marking out literally hundreds of holes ready for drilling into wood, in fact I just wish I'd purchased one sooner, like many years ago.The thing I like about it is that the punch pressure can be adjusted to suit the material for marking. I've not tried it on any steel or aluminium so my experience is using to mark a variety of soft and hardwoods. The tool itself feels sturdy and substantial and I would doubt anyone's hand would slip while handling it so as far as I'm concerned it's an excellent tool and a good purchase from my perspective.

Useful tool.
Does the job well, starting from a light touch for accuracy and making a deeper mark for drill guidance. Flat spring on outside makes it possible to hang on a suitable edge.

Hardly makes a mark in mild steel.
Maybe I didn't understand what this was suppose to do. I had assumed it would centre punch mild steel so a drill bit would locate and not skid about. No, all it does is leave a tiny mark in the surface that you can then punch with a proper punch and hammer before finally drilling. A bit pointless, literally.

Punch fuction stopped working
Only used it about three times on a piece of Aluminium when the spring punch action stopped working.

Works fine
Good punch, easy to use, much better than trying to find a hammer and punch!
