Incredible and oh so simple.
Wow! what can I say.... I ordered this wonderful little godsend nearly a year ago, just after Christmas in 2012 in fact... and I've only just got around to using it;When it arrived (very quickly from the seller) I confess that I was terribly disappointed at the plain, very small, white box it came in and the contents; a home-recorded type and unmarked CD-R, a few leads that looked much like many I already owned, and a strange plastic oojamaflip thingy that looked a bit cheap... Well, once again I've learned not to judge a book by its cover, nor a little white box by its contents!A couple of days ago, when once again I couldn't sleep and wandered downstairs at 04:10 to my iMac to do some work, I saw 'the box' and thought I really should get around to fiddling with it... So I stuck the CD into the computer and up popped a window with an Instruction PDF, a couple of executable APP files and a video tutorial.Having read the reviews, I opened up the instructions and was immediately impressed with the detail, which I then followed to the letter. And to cut a not very long story short, I very quickly had an INCREDIBLE digital copy of a video that I took nearly 27 years ago!!! the quality of the output is almost exactly the same as the original which you view in a preview window while recording.I plan to edit the latter in iMovie or Final Cut Pro for viewing in Apple TV, my iPad etc and also to burn to DVD via iDVD.The instructions are also very comprehensive with FAQ and a contact email in case of any problems, this is to an individual, NOT a generic 'customer service'. (Tim@trcomputers.com, I suspect you're the 'T' from TRcomputers, and if you're reading this, I'm just thrilled with your fab gadget!) - . Without the instructions I'd have had very little idea about the choice of best settings so I would advise you to make sure you DO follow them. (I didn't use the video tutorial, but the info looks great and the narration sounds ideal and comprehensive)In conclusion, this is an amazing little box of tricks for a ridiculously low price considering I can now convert my huge number of precious home recorded VHS tapes at last and relive all those happy memories once more.I'm going to try and attach a very short clip of a family walk taken way back in 1987 to show the quality of this wonderful little bit of kit which is HIGHLY recommended and no, I promise I don't work for the company!

Absolutely Brilliant
I very rarely write (or trust!) reviews, but I am so impressed by this bit of kit that I felt compelled to write one.I bought a very similar device to this many years ago, which fell apart the first time I used it. Despite that, I was able to plug the USB/circuit board into my laptop. But the picture quality was horrendous; it looked like the tracking was completely off. After various attempts, it got consigned to a box in the loft.Yesterday, I decided it would be a nice idea to try and convert a very old (late 80s) VHS tape into a digital video for a friend's birthday. I pulled out the old kit, and it looks like it's not even compatible with Macs (which I primarily use these days). So I had a look on Amazon for a replacement.Despite coming up as 'Amazon's Choice' when I searched for 'VHS to mac', I was still a bit wary - given how long ago most of the top reviews and Q&A were written. I also found the wording 'Works with Big Sur 11 and Catalina 10.15 (Intel and M1 Macs and only kits purchased after 11/11/2019), Mojave (10.14), High Sierra (10.13.6), Sierra (10.12), El Capitan (10.11).' slightly confusing. I have Catalina 10.15, and I thought this text was suggesting this would only work on Macs purchased after 11/11/2019. I then realised it meant that only Video-2-Mac kits purchased after that date would be compatible with Catalina and Big Sur!Anyway. The kit showed up today. The instructions were brilliantly clear and written in plain English, which is so rare for a tech device these days. The software installed first time, and it looks slick. I followed the instructions to the letter, did a 1-minute test video - and it turned out brilliantly. I then dug out my circa 1989 home movie, and transferred the whole 25 minutes or so to a circa 500MB MPEG-4 movie. The picture quality and audio quality are fantastic. I also noticed when creating my test video that the audio (from my very old Sony VCR) came through my speakers in stereo. This is honestly one of the best bits of tech I've bought in a very long time. Typically when I buy a 'cheap' bit of tech from Amazon, I'll have a few failed attempts at getting it to do whatever I wanted it to do and then it gathers dust in a box somewhere.Instead, I'm now looking forward to finally digitising all of my old VHS tapes before they completely degrade!Cannot recommend enough!

haven't sussed it out yet, but I will
Purchased this kit to convert old VHS tapes, easy installation and compatible with my iMac.It comes with different versions of the required software and as of yet I can't find the version I need.I read great reviews on this so the version I need am sure is there somewhere. At my age I'm not good with "Tech",but hey these tapes have been in the loft 40 years+ so whats the hurry!!! LOL

Very good, slight criticism
I chose this product over others such as Roxio as all reviews I read commented on its ease of use. I entirely agree. I had no problems setting it up although I am still not clear how the "button" on the connector works! I ran the program from the key board. I did end up with a massice number of files on my hard disk so that I nearly ran out of space! The instructions should have been clearer about how you import the clips into iPhoto (and thence into iMovie). It is important to <MOVE> files, not <COPY> them! I think this is why I used up so much space! But overall this is an excellent piece of kit.
