Excellent for shaping brushes
I only use this for shaping clean oil brushes, and it's great for it. It won't restore a very worn brush unfortunately. It'll just keep it from splaying any further.

Gum Arabic has Many Uses
Winsor & Newton Gum Arabic, 75mlI'm starting with the product name because the reviews on this page seem to be for a mix of different products. I started using the gum arabic for mixing up inks with Pearl EX Powder Pigments. They make beautiful pearlescent product that can be painted onto paper or canvas. I use them for writing with calligraphy dip pens. They look great, but if just mixed in water, the Pearl Ex is not durable and will smear off.Gum arabic to the rescue. It fixes the pigment on paper after it dries completely. Gum arabic can be rather gooey. The amount used should be controlled carefully. (I use 1/4 tsp to 1 tsp of water most of the time.) It's best to let the finished product dry completely before handling.I find the liquid gum arabic convenient to use. It's also handy when I want to add a drop or two to adjust properties of ink. Oxygen will cause it to go bad over time, so I minimize exposure to air. As it ages, it will turn more yellow.I like the shape of this little bottle. I normally use a blunt-tip syringe to transfer the liquid, but it is easy to pour from this bottle. The cap seals well and doesn't leak.

Works great
I decided to make my own shimmering water color from mica powder and this gum arabic. It worked GREAT and was fun to use to make my own colors. The results were perfect, and the smoothness of the paint is outstanding.

It does exactly what it's supposed to do
My only caveat is that it would have been much more convenient if Winsor and Newton had included a small brush attached to the stopper. I use gum arabic to repair the occasional cigar. Cigar leaf is only pliable when it's wet. By the time the cigar reaches the end user, the outer leaf (known as the "wrapper") is one of the most delicate materials I've ever known.
