No it’s on or off. No high medium or low

No, they are just superficial flames and it doesn't get hot. This would actually be a good piece because there is a separate switch for the heat so you can have flames on with no heat or vice versa which I didn't realize until I bought it.

Q: Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the spot above the fireplace? want to know if i can fit a Receiver that is 6.8" tall in there.

The top two compartments each measure 14" D x 26" W x 6.5" H.
