INCREDIBLE BOOST UPGRADING FROM RYZEN 7 1700 TO RYZEN 7 5700 X3D

I play a lot of PC games and ran into FPS issues when playing the game "Valheim." At this point in time, I thought the GPU was the only thing that made a performance difference with PC games. I had a Ryzen 7 1700 paired with an ASUS 2080Ti OC and could run most modern games on high at around 100FPS when the 2080Ti originally released. Fast forward 4 years and I run into a game that is more CPU dependent and demanding in Valheim than anything I have ever ran on my PC prior. Needless to say, I was getting sub 60FPS in busy areas of the game and it felt unplayable. My good friend suggested to me that my system might be bottle-necked by my CPU, essentially saying I am paying for performance that my machine cannot access in my GPU. So since I have an AM4 chip, I did a search on what were the best upgrade options. The clear winner I saw was the 5800 X3D, however the price was not a winner (~$600 at the time of writing this review), so I went with the much more affordable 5700 X3D with a 5% performance decrease for $270. For the price to performance ratio, there is no CPU in the 5700 X3D's class.Even though I now have incredible FPS in all of my games (Valheim going from ~30FPS to ~120+FPS), pure FPS increase in games is not the only benefit I received from upgrading to the 5700 X3D. My old 1700 would not allow me to run my RAM over 2667MHz or enable "gaming boost" mode on my motherboard. Whenever I would try, my system would restart claiming that the configuration failed. After upgrading to the 5700 X3D, I am able to run my RAM at 3200MHz and also enable "gaming boost" mode on my motherboard with no issues. It seems my old 1700 did not have the horsepower to push those frequencies. If you are in the market for an AM4 CPU, going with the 5700 X3D is a great choice. Depending on where you are upgrading from, you will see either a significant upgrade in quality, or a respectable one. Since I am upgrading from a 1700, my experience has been incredible. The 5700 X3D CPU unlocked performance that I was paying for previously in my GPU, but could not access due to my CPU bottleneck. I have read some reviews claiming even "downgrading" from a 5800 shows some improvement. YMMV. I can only claim that if you are upgrading from a CPU around the Ryzen 7 1700's power level, this one is an easy decision - get this CPU! The 5700 X3D is a workhorse and shreds anything I throw at it. Five stars.

AM4 for life

Like many I did not want to upgrade to AM5 yet and this CPU is one of the best gaming processors left for AM4 as they are not produced anymore. It does run a little hot so a decent CPU cooler is needed (I use Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 se). I would do your due diligence and look up the seller and return policy if anything happens or you get the wrong CPU, but recommended to be sold and shipped by Amazon or in my case third party seller but fulfilled by Amazon. If you can buy it, I would get it, as I don’t think AMD is making any more AM4 x3d CPUs (5500x3d exists but isn’t as fast and region locked)

The definitive CPU for VR & video-processing for AM4 systems

There are two Ryzen chips that are the mainstay for VR gaming with an AM4 motherboard. They are the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and 5700X3D. These chips have onboard shared L3 cache (the X3D) which improves VR and high demand video. The 5800X3D is the better chip, but it is no longer available, and if you can find it, its price is very high. The 5700X3D is a newer rendition and is currently still in production and available. It's specifications are not much below the 5800, and I am very happy with this CPU for my AM4 motherboard.

Great CPU - but pass for a better one

Context: I upgraded my GPU to a 6750XT. My old CPU (Ryzen 5 3600) was bottlenecking the GPU pretty hard. For example, Helldivers II was 60% GPU and 99% CPU usage prior to the upgrade.Pros:- Price is great.- Easy install these days.- Fast for the price.Cons:- While this CPU is great, I wish I would’ve just paid a little more and gone with the 5800X3D. It isn’t much more expensive and would’ve been worth the performance.

Solid Upgrade – Great Performance!

I installed the Ryzen 7 5700X as an upgrade for my AM4 system, and it works flawlessly. The CPU arrived well-packaged, installation was quick, and it booted up with no issues. Performance is fantastic — fast, cool, and stable. In games and multitasking, it’s a noticeable step up from my previous CPU. Paired with my RTX 3060 Ti, everything runs super smooth. Temps are great too, even under load.If you’re still on AM4 and want a solid upgrade without switching platforms, this chip is 100% worth it. Highly recommended!

The best bang for the buck gaming CPU

By far an amazing CPU if your on a AM4 for long term use. The best option for a mid to high gaming build at a reasonable price. This CPU is capable to play at low settings 4K gaming with a powerful GPU. It will surprise you what it can do. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is definitely not out the game just yet.

Fantastic gaming CPU

Replaced my aging (but still viable) Ryzen 5 2600 with this, what a difference without a total mainboard make over! The X3D extra L3 cache makes a huge difference gaming, coupled with a RTX video card and it's unreal. I went back and forth between a whole new system (AM5 mainboard, etc) and just replacing the CPU to get another few years, probably more than five at this rate, out of my AM4 system. My Asus B-450M-A has 32GB of G.Skill DDR, I replaced the 2TB NVMe drive with a 4 TB model as well, added an AIO cooler which was also a welcome change, though my tried but true Noctua huge heatsink always did the trick over the years, the extra space is nice now having just the cooler block / water pump in there. My overall goal was to upgrade to Windows 11 since 10 is reaching end of life support, but wanted the most reasonable measure to do so. Reusing my mainboard with this CPU was the option for me. It arrived well packaged, brand new seal just as advertised. No issues installing, simple as can be. I've been a fan of AMD since the original Athlon Socket A CPUs decades ago, they still perform beyond expectations and handle years of harsh use (with proper cooling).

Make sure its compatible!

Does not work with HP8906 motherboard. Use the Ryzen 7 5700G instead.
