Excellent Reel for the price

Easy to put together. Cuts excellently. Issues I've noticed is the reel is somewhat difficult to adjust the height quickly. To get it to its lowest settings you have to remove the wheels and adjust the back roller. Additionally, at the lowest heights <1", it lacks the weight to hold itself steady and will catch on the stolons. The end result is you have to shave down the grass, going over and over the grass again, to get it down to 0.5". Once it's down to .5" it will cut just fine, it's just difficult to lower the height of cut below 1" if you have thick healthy grass. No issues with wash boarding. Will get the job done. Definitely worth the price.

Heck yeah this is awesome

The tall skinny grass with seeds somehow escaped the blade. Everything is us donezo. Quality stuff. Easy to build!

For small areas upkeep solid tool

Works great for a quick trims between the actual mowing. I bout this before I invested in a mower and it got me through full season but I did have to get someone to mow before I used it. It will not work with high grass overly high I mean. But once I had it mowed I used it every few days and it was great. Also if you have a big yard that’s a lot off walking so suggesting for smaller areas. But over all great

A little complicated to adjust height. Worth it though.

Works great and has such a satisfying sound as it spins. The instructions about how to change mowing heights are confusing and the video linked from the manual is just as bad. But stick with it.

Well built, but didn't work for me

I bought this because my gas mower broke and I hoped to save money on gas for my next mower. I had long grass by the time this arrived (think knee-high) and tried it just to see how it would work, even though the manual said not to. Definitely don't do tall grass! The tall strands wrapped around the edges and knotted up, so I had to carefully pull those out, and the grass itself didn't really get cut; the mower just pushed it over, and since it was tall, it lay out flat enough to not even be grazed by the blades. That being said, when I weed-whacked it all down and went back over it, it did work better. You have to walk slow; the blades might spin faster the faster you walk, but that doesn't mean it's going to cut the grass faster. A slow, steady pace is best. The mower worked well for a few spots on my yard, but then it started jamming up and I couldn't figure out why. I *think* that my ground was too lumpy and the blades were hitting/stalling on dirt, but I couldn't tell for sure. Also, it rarely cut all the grass in a single pass and I would have to go over it once or twice to get the stray blades it missed. Ultimately, it wasn't for me and I returned it.So, in short, make sure your lawn is flat and doesn't have any lumps, walk slowly, and don't let the grass get too high! This is a great eco-friendly options if you're willing to put in a little extra work (i.e. shorter time between mowings). My lumpy yard wasn't a good fit, but I know plenty of people who would benefit greatly from a mower like this.

1715-16EW 16" 7-blade - superior to my Fiskars 18" reel max at less than half the price

I really wanted to do a review on the Earthwise 1715-16EW 7-blade push reel mower because it works so well. I have been mowing this year with the Fiskars 18 inch stay sharp max reel mower, and I have had some problems with it. The way the front wheels are so far in front of the cutting bed with the rear wheels so far behind it can make it an issue when mowing on even a gentle hill; the bed drags on the ground and the mower scalps. I also had a problem with any little debris in the yard catching in the reel and stopping the mower. When I purchased the sharpening kit, the first time I received a kit without a crank handle. Had to go through the return process and finally received the full kit. But then when I went to remove the small gear on the reel shaft, I torqued my allen wrench 90* trying to break loose the set screw before the bolt hole finally stripped out. Don't know if they loc-tited the screw or if it was installed with an impact wrench at too high a torque setting. I ended up having to drill/tap the opposite end of the shaft for a 10mm bolt so I could attach a nut driver to backlap and resharpen the "non-contact" blades. Overall the Fiskars is not a bad machine, but for the price it has serious drawbacks. This Earthwise 7-blade mower is superior to the Fiskars at less than half the price (I paid $87 for it - was on sale - suh-weet deal). Took me about 10 minutes to attach the handles and set the height for my yard (I mow at 1.5") and I was out and mowing. The reel turns much faster for the same walking pace than the Fiskars reel and that and the fact that it has 7 blades made mowing today a single-pass effort where previously I would have to pass over the same lane 2x with the Fiskars. The rollers on the back also help keep the Earthwise level when mowing uneven areas as well as far superior when overhanging the landscape edging. Because the cutting bed is centered under the wheels, I do not have any problem with the bed contacting the ground at any location in my yard, which was definitely not the case with the Fiskars.Time will tell if this mower is long-term reliable, but the reel and the bed look and feel well-made, the handles are sturdy and the 10" wheels had no problem with slipping (which I was originally a bit worried about). The only minor gripe I would have is that I would prefer the handles be slightly wider and straight vs angled, but I can rig up something for my comfort very easily (perhaps some bicycle bar-ends or some such thing).I have a residential yard and it takes me about 30 minutes to push mow. It is not a high level of exertion, just a little push with a walk.I was worried about this purchase based on other reviews, but I am pleased that I own this mower and also that it works better than the more expensive one I previously purchased. Anyone want to buy my old Fiskars? lol.
