Klein Tools CL390 AC/DC Digital Clamp Meter, Auto-Ranging, 400 Amp, NCVT Tester, Hi-Viz LCD Display, TRMS, Continuity Resistance, Temperature and More

I recently started using the Klein Tools CL390 Clamp Meter, and it's been a solid addition to my toolkit. The auto-ranging TRMS feature provides accurate readings for both AC and DC currents up to 400 amps. The high-visibility reverse contrast LCD display is easy to read in various lighting conditions. I appreciate the built-in non-contact voltage tester and the ability to measure temperature with the included thermocouple. The meter feels durable and comes with a convenient carrying case. Overall, a dependable and versatile tool for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

CL 390. I think the description leaves some room for interpretation. In the description it says it 's an AC/DC clamp meter that reads amps via clamp, and microamps via leads. It's an amp clamp that reads micro and milliamps, and amps, so yes it does do that. However, the lowest resolution for the clamp is 300 milliamps. If you are searching for parasitic draw using the clamp then no, it doesn't do that nor does it read milliamps with the leads. I think it is a decent tool but won't do the primary function I was looking for which is reading milliamps. I just tested a vehicle with my Fluke measuring a 269 mA draw that dropped to 89 mA after the module timed out. The Klien doesnt show anything using the clamp, and it reads out of range using the leads.

It is affordable for being able to do AC and DC measurements and being able to go up to 400 amps.

This meter combines almost all of the functions of a good good conventional digital multimeter (DMM) with the convenience and simplicity of an AC / DC clamp current meter, giving the best of both worlds in one compact unit.The display is large and easy to read, though it is white numbers on black background instead of the usual black on white; it's back illuminated. Some reviewers stated that the display shuts off too rapidly (power saving feature); it does have a 5-minute time out function, however, this can be easily overridden and turned off so that the meter stays on continuously (this is explained in the instruction manual, as are many other excellent features that are not immediately apparent).All features are easy to access, and the buttons and switches on this meter, including the thumb operated rotary range dial, work smoothly and reliably.It comes with a thermocouple temperature probe, test leads, batteries, a case, and an instruction manual; In other words, it is a complete kit ready to go right out of the package.I checked the meter on a voltage reference and the calibration was very good.The only additional feature that I wish this meter had was an in-circuit 10 amp current measuring range. That said, the clamp sensing current measurement is more accurate at low current than I thought it would be.

This is an excellent buy, good value. I particularly like having the DC amperage feature. I have checked alternator output, solar panel output quickly and easily in the field. I purchased the add on magnet to be able to stick the meter on the side of an AC unit while checking voltage.
